The Pleasure of Doing What You Love
I am drawn to paintings by art students and amateur artists. There’s an honesty and sincerity to the work, and you can almost feel the artist painting for the sheer pleasure of it. I’m reminded that being engaged in the creative process - whether drawing, writing, cooking, singing or whatever one loves doing - is as important as the end product. Doing for doing’s sake, learning for the joy of finding things out, getting one’s hands dirty as a way to connect with life. I also love amateur art for the exuberant way it captures the simple beauty of everyday objects - like these household items rendered in bright colours and boisterous strokes. Paintings like this invite us to delight in the small pleasures that are available here and now in this incredible moment. What do you love doing for the sheer joy of it?
